After two days without food or water, they'll start eating each other on live TV.

There is a 100% probability, given enough time that Tampa will be hit by a hurricane.

That is an inevitable and irrefutable fact of geography and climate.

Tampa gets hit by hurricanes.

Tampa's been hit in 1848, 1921, 1946 and had close calls in 1985 and 2002.

So, it's only a matter of time until a hurricane hits Tampa.

Let's not look at this as "I want a hurricane to hit Tampa" as much as "if I could choose when the next hurricane would hit Tampa..."

I know Tampa gets hit by hurricanes. I also know you're not completely serious and neither is the dude who claims to fantasize about one happening during the upcoming convention. I guess if I had a fantasy concerning them, it would be that they turn and go away from shore. Natural disasters, or even man-made ones for that matter, aren't something I'd choose for anyone, at any time.

Do me a favor and don't choose the next time a favored sports team of yours plays in So. Cal for us to have our next Big One. That's all I ask.

I'm always reminded of a comic routine I heard about the fatalistic notion of it being your time when it's your time. The comic asked how fucked up it would be if you were sitting in seat 10A on a plane and it was the asshole in seat 10B whose "time it was".

It is a statistical certainty that a hurricane is going to hit Tampa sooner or later. It happens as frequently as every 30 years or so.

So, while I certainly don't want it to happen, I know that it's going to happen sometime. So perhaps if it has to happen, then one would at least hope for an opportune time.

Tropical Depression #9 has formed in the Atlantic and could impact South Florida early next week.

This storm will move toward the west and approach the Leeward Islands by Wednesday. The storm will likely be named Tropical Storm Isaac later today.

After that time it will move through the Caribbean, impacting Puerto Rico, and Jamaica before nearing Cuba as a hurricane.

The current model guidance is suggesting that south and central Florida could be impacted by this storm.
