1. Who has committed a crime?

Julian is the one who committed the crime.

As due to the leaks, has anyone been prosecuted? Could that even be used as evidence? This is all so vague. Is there a single person who as a result of these leaks has been named as possibly committing a crime? (An actual crime as defined by the law).

several contractors have been prosecuted so far, leaders lost power, the Arab Spring justified. Wikileaks has been a catalyst in many downfalls both social and in laws. Do some homework. Jesus, the cables gave the world sight, or would you prefer ignorance?

What contractors?

You are giving credit for the Arab Spring to Julian? OMG. This is taking hero worship a bit far, don't you think?

You prefer that there be no classification of documents, and no release of them by the American having the job to do that? You prefer that to be chosen by some random individual who hacked secret files or released information that was not supposed to be open?

Or you just think the government can function without classified secrets.

Some people may not be blinded here.

1. It is in our interest to have some classified documents. I don't think it at all practical to say the government must let it all hang out in the open. Other countries could see it to.

2. As to which are classified, there are Americans, with security clearances to do that job. They are more trustworthy than random hackers.

3. It is highly questionable that the leaks really brought about the Arab Spring (and that has been criticized from the left anyway)

4. Sexual assault charges are completely separate. It's really buying into this sicko's drama to call them a conspiracy against him.

And if you're not willing to consider a question or be persuaded, that's the problem, not someone questioning those beliefs. I am just questioning the blind hero worship of Julian and the twisting of all facts to favor him.

Right - Wrong - what's the point? The REAL point is the minions thirst for someone to stand up to the "establishment" that seemingly runs out of (their) control. The way Julian has been pursued - all a facade of "properness" to empower the establishments to cover their asses - period. They're bound and determined to hang Assange, while we let the criminals in DC and on Wall St. collect their rewards and retire to their yachts. His hanging won't serve so much as a punishment as it will serve as a deterrent against any more aspiring whistleblowers. OF WHICH (on a much tinier scale) I am one.
As a minion on an aircraft production line years ago, I became aware of a defect that was deliberately being covered up on one particular plane (a military transport plane). This was a defect that we were constantly officially remind to report if we detected such. I reported my observation to my supervisor and he promptly assigned me to another job. Shortly thereafter, I saw another technician (a known "yes man" in our crew) progressing without addressing the defect. Further, once the work was done, this supervisor had his favorite inspector buy off the production report without looking at what work was done.
This really bugged me and I went to the Air Force oversight office the next morning to report it. The Air Force folks were very thankful, and called out my supervisor and his cover-up collaborators.
The management of our department (including my supervisor) knew without a doubt, who had exposed them. They couldn't fire me because of the circumstances, but they made life tough for me. I finally got transferred to another department.

Now, from what I gather, it should have been left to my supervisor to deem whether or not a bit of bad workmanship, and there4for purposely overlooked - that's why they paid him the big bucks. Me? I should'a just kept my head down and kept my mouth shut, I guess. Thing is, there was this big banner on the inside of the assembly building. It read: A mistake covered up may cost the lives of a brave crew.

I agree there's sensitive secrets that could jeapordize our nation's security, but NO ONE in power is gonna weed them out and hand over the stuff we RIGHTLY ought to know about. We're being MADE to pay for shit we never even have a clue about - stuff that can actually have a direct impact on our personal lives. And I'm supposed to be happy with that ignorance???

Not only could other countries see it, they have seen it and look at the damage it has caused...

Oh yeah, and Daniel Ellsberg should be rotting in jail for what he did too.

This is entirely about protecting political power and punishing those who dare to expose war crimes. Even Swedish prosecutors have said this is not a rape case, but “sex by surprise”. One of the accusers had ties to a group with CIA connections.

This lays it out clearly.

That is, if it's possible to read it and consider the argument without summarily dismissing it just because, say, one wants to believe their hero can't -- just can't -- possibly have done this.

.. are already trying to sell their crap on this thread.

Make no mistake about it, this is ALL being done as POLITICAL PAYBACK to someone who had the courage to speak TRUTH TO POWER. That is one and only reason, and anyone who says differently is lying to you.
