Gene Lyons: If Paul Ryan is America’s accountant, we’re in trouble
Have I mentioned that Rep. Ryan is a very handsome fellow, with earnest puppy-dog eyes? Seeming guileless is his singular political talent. That, and a wholly undeserved reputation for intellectual seriousness and lack of personal ambition belied by his rapid rise to power.
Another brilliant piece on what a dangerous fraud Ryan is.
And it points out that Ryan's economic manifestos "share two traits: extreme intellectual dishonesty and arithmetic the distinguished gentleman appears to have pulled entirely out of his wazoo."
Lyons does make some comments on Ryan's looks of the sort many Dems find maddening, since not everyone is taken in by Ryan's "winsome" "puppy-dog eyes and altar boy demeanor." But at least Lyons make the funeral-director comparison
Had he not gone into politics, he’d have made a terrific Irish-Catholic funeral director.
that was also made by Reg Henry in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:
Some believe Paul Ryan is a handsome candidate, too, although others (OK, me) see a passing resemblance to an undertaker. It is not fair to say he gives the impression of measuring everybody he meets with his soulful eyes. It is just his way of measuring their entitlements, the better to inter them later.
