If Romney had picked Charles Manson it would have taken focus off Mitt's taxes

The fact that the Ryan pick has changed the story from Mitt's taxes is not a defeat.

This election was never going to be about Mitt's taxes. Almost no persuadable voter was going to cast a vote based on Mitt not releasing his tax returns.

It's a great story. It is a fun story. It helps make Mitt appear ridiculous. And we have not heard the last of it.

But this election was always going to be about Medicare. From the day the House passed the Ryan budget that was the turf where election 2012 was ultimately going to be fought. And Mitt's... base... is... elderly.

Picking Ryan was a stunning self-inflicted injury. Talking about Ryan is not a distraction from Mitt's taxes, it is focusing on the fact that somebody is actually running for President on ending Medicare. That is extraordinary.

Again... Mitt Romney picked a running mate whose only claim to fame is his plan to end Medicare and raise the health care costs of seniors by at least $6,5000/year.

1. Yeah, Mitt's got a built in October surprise waiting for his campaign.

His extension for his 2011 taxes, which he has already promised to release, is up on october 15. His excuse that they're not ready yet turns back into a pumpkin, just in time for halloween and to remind everyone of this whole issue.

Even if it drops out of the news for a bit, it will be back.
