OK, it's not official yet, but several sources are pointing there.
Not as crazy as Sarah Palin, but still, he's an extremist for sure. The Paul Ryan budget is a fraud. It looks like a hail mary pick to me. For sure it completes Romney's transition from potentially reasonable Mass governor to right-wing nutjob.

(35,015 posts)Romney absolutely needs the GOP base if he has any chance in hell (which he doesn't). The only way to do that is bring one on board.
Still, it won't work.

(9,893 posts)Recently, I thought that the race would be close between Rmoney and Obama.
If it is Ryan, then I think Obama has it. Vouchers for Medicare will turn off seniors and anyone who loves a senior.

(8,377 posts)By the time this is done, his whole Ayn Rand worldview will be repudiated. We kill two big birds with one little stone.
Obama has already focused on making this an election about two different visions for America. Romney is complete non-committal on everything, making it tough to have a sharp debate. But with Ryan on the tick, the Ryan budget becomes the Romney play whether Romney likes it or not. And that is very specific.
This is too good to be true.

(8,377 posts)That would be right up there with Sarah Palin.
Ryan brings no upside beyond the far left base and a Romney/Ryan ticket opens the door to focusing on Ryan's plan that kills Medicare. Romney has said nice words about the Ryan budget, but it is tough to hang that on Romney if he hasn't really been specific that he would go along with killing Medicare. With somebody else of the ticket, Romney could weasel out of that by saying, "Well there are many good ideas in the Ryan budget, but I can't comment on specific proposals, and of course I will do right by our senior citizens ... blah blah blah."
But with a Romney/Ryan ticket, Romney OWNS the Ryan budget -- every word of it.
This would be a HUGE blunder.
Please, please, please .....
I may not go to sleep tonight.
P.S. It is not just killing Medicare. That budget is loaded with all sorts of Ayn Rand stuff that Americans will hate. This would be such a gift to Obama if Romney really does that. Not only would it finish off Romney, we would finish off the Ryan budget at the same time. This is EXACTLY the fight Obama has been itching for.

Not seriously, of course, but seriously...
In addition to winning in 2012, we have the opportunity to completely take apart, brick by brick, the guy who is laughably considered the "leading intellect" in the Republican Party (a title once held by Newt Gingrich, BTW).
This, my friends, is going to be fun.
Paul Ryan getting the call from the Romney Campaign....

(57,936 posts)I think they are also hoping to convert young voters to Ryan/Paul's points of view. The Republicans are moving even further to the right.
Obama needs to get more youth involvement in his campaign, and that is tough considering the unemployment rates among college graduates and young adults.
