Mark Twain at Stormfield, 1909 (Edison film)

The only known footage of Mark Twain, in his signature white suit and puffing a cigar, recorded by Thomas Edison in 1909, a year before Twain’s death. The two were close friends.

Edison is also responsible for filming the first kiss in cinema.

Silent film footage taken in 1909 by Thomas Edison at Stormfield (CT) at Mark Twain's estate. Twain is shown walkng around his home and playing cards with his daughters Clara and Jean. The flickering is due to film deterioration, but this is the only known footage of the great author.

...why old silent films keep getting transferred at 24 frames per second when they were shot at 20 frames per.
That's what gives them that herky jerky look with people doing everything too fast.

I have a 1949 16mm projector that has a switch for 20 frames per second - for silent films. So technology has never stood in the way of transferring these at the right speed.

Does anyone know why it's virtually never done correctly?

Just wondering..."...
