We first saw these pictures of Rep. Peter Nehr, R-Tarpon Springs in his underwear over on the Tampa Bay Times website, and they're now making the rounds online.
When confronted about the circulation of these "selfies" (what the kids call taking pictures of yourself with your cell phone), and asked if these were taken for use on a dating website, Nehr told our reporter Noah Pransky that he has used online dating sites since he got divorced, but didn't remember posting any of the shirtless pictures on there. And then he released the following statement.
To all those interested in my pictures that were posted on the blogs:
I have been a diabetic for many years and like many diabetics have had problems with my weight and my blood sugar control.
The attached pictures are all originals with no photo shopping which include a before picture and after picture of my face and also a before and after picture of my body.

(44,096 posts)I've lost a lot of weight, through diet and exercise.
It has done a lot for my diabetes management/blood sugar control.

(44,096 posts)There are lots of fitness forums where people share their physique transformations. One motivation is to inspire and help others. Ala "If I can lose all this weight and be healthy, ANYBODY can do it."
Article isn't clear where he posted them. If it was on a fitness blog/forum then totally makes sense to me.
For example, check bodyforlife.com. Lots of transformation pictures.

(44,096 posts)Note that his belly button is lower than normal, that is consistent as well.
I buy his story.

(26,219 posts)Why he should release the set. The before/afters are always awesome - and would turn tables on those who would bash him - assuming his story is true. He should own that victory over diabetes, and this opens the door for him.
