if you live in San Diego County... fire near downtown Alpine, brush, structures might be affected... not sure yet.
Also I-8 is closed due to smoke.
And yes, it is windy outside my window.
So if you happen to be in the area...
And here is the alert
I-8 East has been shut down due to a three-acre fire burning in downtown Alpine, near the intersection of Alpine Blvd. and Tavern Road. The fire is burning toward Interstate 8, Cal-Fire Battalion Chief Nick Schuler told ECM at 3:10 p.m.
Alpine Sheriff's Paula Dickenson reports "low visibility" due to smoke on I-8 between Tavern and Dunbar.
Cause is not yet known, however the fire was reported as having multiple ignitions, ECM has learned. Watch for updates soon.

Update they are starting to stand down.
One thing they learned locally from the fires a few years back is that when we have one of these suckers start, doubly so when they start near structures, is that they throw everything they have available including the kitchen sink. This is a good thing, but it has a dark shadow, one, two fires, yup, we can shit enough units with mutual aid, three or four, it starts to get dicey.

(154,021 posts)We have one a week now... mostly grass vegetation, flashy fires. This one was over at one acre and the kitchen sink thrown at it.
But October is the bad time for these things.
midnight
(26,624 posts)public service workers at this time, especially considering October is around the corner...

And it is not just pols... our back country residents predicable revolt every time anybody asks them to pay one more cent for fire protection.
You'd think after Cedar you could have had some more paid for fire protection, but NOOOO!!!!!!!
One of these days there is gonna be a disaster and they will scream WHY NOT FIRE CREWS! Or better yet, WHERE WERE THEM FIREFIGHTERS?????
I swear, there are days I just want to hit my head on the wall, less painful that way.
The latest kerfunkle is over the fire protection districts in the state area of responsibly, which in the back country you cannot avoid... they are all up in arms. What, YOU WANT ME TO PAY A LITTLE MORE (A flat fee) to pay for state fire protection? I mean it's like Cal Fire is free I guess. NO MORE TAXES!!!!
I just LLLUUUUVVVVEEEE the low tax mantra, get something for nothing... really
I have no idea what it will take to break that pattern to be honest.
But short answer, this. (And since this is a guy in a suit, it is even better)
