Here's where Jon Stewart's criticism of Harry Reid failsLast edited Thu Aug 2, 2012, 04:54 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1)
The criticism:
<...>
In this case, McConnell may find rare common cause with the comedian Jon Stewart. Stewart mocked Reid’s comments on an episode of “The Daily Show” that aired Wednesday night, comparing Reid’s contention about Romney’s tax returns to the effort by real estate mogul Donald Trump to investigate the birth records of President Barack Obama. http://www.rollcall.com/news/Mitch-McConnell-Blasts-Harry-Reid-for-Questioning-Romney-Tax-Returns-216697-1.html Well, Obama has released his birth certificate.
In fact, I'd say Stewart's mentioning it falls into this category: http://www.democraticunderground.com/10021062537 Your turn Mitt!
If you insist on speculating about what's in Mitt Romney's tax returns, please do so responsibly http://upload.democraticunderground.com/10021062671 Sen. Harry Reid Has No Intention Of Backing Down On Romney Tax Accusations http://www.democraticunderground.com/10021063254

2. Whaddya know? A comedian gets something wrong...
|
...He was wrong about the left-right media-equivalency thing with the "Sanity" rally, and he's wrong here too.
The birth certificate issue was used as an excuse to hide right-wing bigotry, Rmoney's failure to disclose his tax returns is being used to show that Mittens is an un-trustworthy, manipulative, goddamned liar.. |

3. I'm not sure why Jon went after Reid
|
but the reason he brought the subject up was to show how Fox And Friends were reacting to it and how hypocritical they were for bitching about someone saying things without evidence. That's how the segment ended and it was hilarious.
I guess Dems get held to such a higher standard while Repubs go on and on with absolutely ridiculous allegations with no facts whatsoever. Jon points their insanity out all the time, so maybe he was trying to appear more balanced. Anyway, I agree it was a stupid attack - especially comparing him to Birthers. |

|
He practically called Reid a liar...I don't think Reid made his statement up. I think it really happened which makes it altogether different from the crap Faux spews. I can't imagine that Faux actually believes what they put out there...they know they're lying when they say it. Just MHO.

8. I didn't either
|
and it really pissed me off when I saw Fox use the clip from The Daily Show today to discredit Reid.
However, as I mentioned, the last part of the segment calling out Fox for blatant hypocrisy was funny and to the point. Obviously, they did not show that part of the segment today on Fox so Jon needs to stop giving the right-wingers ammunition in election season. I know he's just a comedian but studies have shown that a LOT of people actually get informed from that show. |

|
calling Harry Reid stupid while not checking with Harry Reid if those facts are real.
I was screaming at the tv and am so looking forward to Stewart eating some crow on this one. |

5. Of course,
|
"I'm not sure why Jon went after Reid but the reason he brought the subject up was to show how Fox And Friends were reacting to it and how hypocritical they were for bitching about someone saying things without evidence."
...the media will leave out the "hypocritical" part. Still, Stewart's comment serves the purpose. |

10. The only media I've seen cover Stewart's attack on Reid
|
is Fox News. So yeah, it was really unfair and gives the right ammunition.
I'm just trying to understand why he went after Reid. My only guess is he wants a bigger audience and hopes some conservatives will tune in based on this attack. Maybe if they do the vast majority of fair and truthful attacks he makes on the Rethugs will sink in. |

Sorry, but that's just going too far. Yes, his father basically introduced the idea of politicians releasing their tax returns, but Reid should have worded it more carefully.

Impossible new obnoxiousness low for LIMBOsevic (abt REID). & enough terribleness for Jon STEWART to go around: LIMBOsevic just did a parody that his clueless audience will take as real. He claimed he got a call from "somebody who went to Harvard" who told him that President OBAMA hides his academic records because he had the worst grades in Harvard history, didn't go to classes and was covered-for by his professors. First he did an elaborate setup going on and on about how he took this call despite hating phones, how he has a panic attack when phones ring or otherwise gets five minutes of funk. The only thing he left out was his drug deafness, like when he disclosed it: "I'mmmmmm... DEAFfffffffff!1" As for Jon, he lost me when he revealed himself to be a Third Way-er, when he staged his rally in response to the BecKKK crap rally. I had discovered him delightedly when he took over the Daily Show from KILBORN, had been slightly puzzled when he wrecked Crossfire, but finally with his BecKKK rally it all became clear. I hadn't needed to ask, what does Jon want? before then, but there at that absurd crapfest where he disappointed that audience that was expecting a Liberal voice and instead served up a Mythbusters street performance, the question presented itself and was answered. From then on I haven't tuned him in, his spot is nicely filled by COLBERT and MAHER. As MAHER said back then, "If you're going to hold (an event) it needs to be about something." And MAHER's personal jerkoffs are preferable/better than Jon's Third Way thank you very much. Anyway, STEWART gigged REID for the crack about ROMNEY-pere ashamed of son. He did zing Faux again, however and ended by saying, "There's enough terribleness to go around." Still, eye glint aside, wink wink, he still play-dates O'LOOFAH. |
