the longer that Chik Fil A stays in the headlines, the worse for our side
- boycotting is one thing, and is not the problem.
- politically trying to block businesses from opening stores based on the personal bigotry of the ceo was a mistake. Rahm and the Boston mayor fucked up. They gave the right wing bigots the ability to, amazingly, claim the high ground. It is simple not okay to block a business from doing business based on the personal opinions of the ceo, as long as the business doesn't discriminate in hiring or serving. We've now given the right wing their new "ground zero mosque" or "war on christmas" to whip up their base and change the subject away from romney for the next several weeks. Mr. Cathy is a bigot. As long as that bigotry is not manifested in his hiring and serving policies, it is perfectly legal for him to be an asshole bigot. And boycotting his businesses is a valid and justified response. But Chicago and Boston governments CANNOT bloc him from opening up stores. That *is* government intruding on free speech. We've now amazingly turned Mr. Cathy into the victim, and a sympathetic figure. LET IT SINK. Sometimes our side is politically stupid. Calling for a boycott should have been all we did... Not Rahm's stupid overreach.

10. I don't think so. Support for Gay marriage is going to be a plank in the Democratic platform.
|
The majority of Americans support Gay marriage. We look like people of principle where they look like the religious bigots they are.
It can only be good for us to show by actions what we believe in. Fearing what the right will do is a waste of time. No matter what we do or don't do we will get the 24/7 attacks. If not Chick Fil A it will be something else. Also it is not only some business owner's beliefs. That company gives money to hate groups and to refuse them a business license is to reduce money going to hate groups by anyone who eats there. |

CA's prop 8 is going to the Supreme Court. The supporters have lost in every federal court and the State Supreme Court. We care enough in CA to end this hateful proposition even though the majority of people who voted voted against it. It was funded by the Mormons and the anti 8 people were outspent. Sorry but these stories won't die. We've gone too far to sit back and wait. The majority has no right to take away someone's rights. |

I always suspected the Palin's of being bigots and racists, but now I know for sure after seeing a photo of them buying the Chic-fil-a food. She could have been our Vice President! And her backers want her to run for something again. For all we know she'll run for President next time. |

Boycotting and calling Cathy out are both proper actions.
Using the govt, aka Rahm and Menino, is NOT ok. The govt can't block a business because of the thought crimes of its ceo. Just can't. Protest, boycott, and shout from the rooftops. That's ok. But you can't use govt to punsih how a person thinks. |

At no point in his letter did he claim he was going to legally block Chick-Fil-A from opening a business. He just said we don't want you here and urged them to back out of their plans to set up shop.
Rahm, I agree, did fu*k up, as he actually suggested he'd prevent Chick-Fil-A from opening, which he legally cannot do simply in response to Chick-Fil-A's statements. |
