Just a quick thought/question on this Chick-Fil-A thing...
Where was all this support for free speech and for standing up for your principles when JCPenney's was being trashed for hiring Ellen? Y'all remember that?
I know I do. One million moms (so called Christians) having shit fits over a gay being the face of a family store. It was all over the news, including Faux.

1. Not a fair comparison

I can get behind that. I can also get behind JCPenny hiring Ellen (a person I love, BTW). And I'm all for boycotting Chick-Fil-A. Let them come to Boston and fail. I thank Mayor Menino for trying, but it's not his fight, it's ours. |

7. No, not talking about elected officials...
|
about the people that are screaming about their free speech rights and how they're just standing up for their principles, same people that harassed boycotted etc (only they had money behind their efforts) JCPenney's.
They play the victim when the same is done to them. They're a bunch of whiny hypocrites. It's a one way street. |

2. They think 'free speech' means...
|
freedom from criticism.
Obviously, they don't understand what it means. |

3. I remember that and I was so proud that so many stood up for JCPenney & Ellen. I've tried not to
|
get involved with the Chick-Fil-A thing because I really do believe the man has a right to voice his opinion. I think he made a huge mistake because although he profits from each & every franchise, he doesn't own them so I think he's hurting a lot of innocent people who do own them. He's an idiot for sure.

8. Corporate-Built-and-Owned "Franchise" Locations
|
Actually, from what I understand, Chick-Fil-A (the corporation) builds every franchise location and then rents it to the franchisee for a confiscatory percentage of the profits.

11. Oh, ok. I didn't know that, but he's still hurting the people who run each store, so he's still
|
an ass only thinking of himself. Maybe he's got a "Trump" complex & wants to be just like his idol.

13. It's not just a man excercising his right to voice his opinion-- far from it.
|
Chick Fil A actively donates to far-right wing organizations-- FRC, for example, who spent 25,000 lobbying US congress to NOT condemn Uganda's "kill the gays" bill. My ex interviewed at a Chick Fil A in Texas circa 1996, walked out of the interview stating he was asked highly personal questions about his faith and sexuality. The organization is notorious for drumming up "firable" offenses for those suspected of homosexuality. Its out and out human rights they have denied gays and suspected gays in the name of Cheezus.

5. I don't understand
|
Did the Police or the Army shut down all of the chik-fil-ahole stores, or confiscate their earnings? Or did the person from the company who said the comments get arrested and end up in jail or something for saying it?
I'm hearing a lot about defending free speech, and a lot of outrage from people so I am assuming something like that happened. Or are they just confusing shoving their views of how they believe everyone should live down everyone's throats and thinking evreyone should shut up and listen to them, with free speech again? |

6. Bit of a difference.
|
I think it can be said that there's a bit of a difference between hiring an actress and weighing in on a company level as being in favor of denying rights to an entire segment of the population.
That said, as long as they're willing to serve anyone, they're welcome to their hateful, exclusionary speech. But I'm not a fascist, so it's not hard for me to do that. |

10. The one million moms could not field a regular Wednesday night bridge club.

But telling stupid people to go buy bread chicken sandwiches because JESUS wants them to ... THAT will fill the drive thru.
The thing these dopes miss is that eating this stuff will accelerate the death of the homophobes. So I think we should encourage them to repeat this display of unity weekly for the next few years. |

is discrimination against THEM. They really think that intolerance for hatred and bigotry is the same as the original hatred and bigotry.
