Usually, Cockroaches Hide When You Turn on the Lights. Not So with Modern BigotsLast edited Wed Aug 1, 2012, 09:04 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1)
Today was a Banner Day for Bigotry.
"It was a Beautiful Thing", said one caller on the Mike Huckabee show this afternoon, of dozens of people lined up for a Chick A fil lunch.
Honestly, since Barack Obama became the POTUS, it seems that bigots are glorifying in their bigotry; they're proud, and showing it off like it's a good thing. But they aren't alone, they're well funded. Chick-Fil-A's Charitable Arm Gave Nearly $2 Million To Anti-Gay Groups In 2010
WinShape Is Chick-Fil-A's Charitable Arm. The WinShape Foundation is Chick-fil-A's charitable arm, created by Chick-fil-A founder and chairman S. Truett Cathy in 1984. WinShape has received a substantial amount of funding from Chick-fil-A: in 2010 alone, WinShape received $8,067,161 from Chick-fil-A Inc. WinShape Gave Over $1.9 Million To Anti-Gay Groups. In 2010, WinShape donated $1,974,380 to a number of anti-gay groups: Marriage & Family Foundation: $1,188,380 Fellowship Of Christian Athletes: $480,000 National Christian Foundation: $247,500 New Mexico Christian Foundation: $54,000 Exodus International: $1,000 Family Research Council: $1,000 Georgia Family Council: $2,500 http://equalitymatters.org/factcheck/201207020001 AND: COMPANY FACTS

3. It is very sad...

I miss the days when bigots hid in their closets. Now they make it a political statement.

4. I have been in a rotten mood all day thanks to Mike Huckabee
|
I chose the wrong day to go to Bed, Bath and Beyond. It's across the street from Chic-Fil-A and I have never seen so much traffic. All that bigotry----all that hatred and I could hear cheering from the crowd. It literally made me sick!

6. Racism & hate shoots you up the ranks in the RW quickly. Whereas we shun it, they celebrate it.

7. They've taken all the mystery away from it.

In the not so distant past, one could only speculate who some of the bigots were. Now we know for sure.

8. Don't sweat it. They have no convictions. It's a one day thing.

Our ongoing boycott of CFA is going to last far longer than their support.
If y'all want a real pisser, my trans sister can't pass up a Cracker Barrel and drinks Coors. Was probably standing in like at CFA today. I have no clue. |

9. did you hear about the NH Chick Fil A? the owner
|
is sponsoring a Gay Pride event, and will be providing free food for it-
Not what mr's huckabee and cathy intended- I'm pretty surprised, and happy with this news. It's a small victory- but it shows promise. |

11. I did read about that.
|
I'd be torn were I living in NH between supporting the local franchise for their courage, yet knowing that they support the brand and that some of the dollars of my patronage would go toward evil means.
Thanks. |

12. yeah, I've never eaten at a Chick Fil A
|
and don't intend to (two hour drive for a fast food chicken sandwich? no thanks) but I was really surprised and pleased that this guy was willing to stand against the hate- and am writing to express my thanks for his public support for equal rights.
He had plenty of people there willing to promote cathy's agenda- and didn't need to make an issue of his support of marriage equality. Wish this story had more traction in the MSM so that if there are other franchises out there who really aren't ok with the corporate attitude they would be encouraged to have the guts to speak out as well. People are trying to hide their hate behind "free speech" now, not only their twisted view of religion, and that really sucks- imo. I think that emboldened some to come out, who wouldn't have otherwise done so. They pretended it wasn't about prejudice, but rather about defending the first amendment. |

...when my neighbor comes home, carrying a big ol' Chick-Fil-A sack.
I know the family is deeply Christian, and that's fine with me. But I don't think I'll be able to see them in the same charitable light again. Little gestures tell a lot, IMO. |
