2. I had to stop because the list was getting too long.

And for half of the things on the list Mitt either walked them back or
said that he never said whatever was in question aka Mitt flipped flopped. |

5. And, all this, with a captive MSM trailing him.

Are you old enough to remember what it may have been like had he had an objective media following along? Nuclear disaster.

3. This has all the signs of an inept campaign team, but
|
I suspect that is not it at all. The time it takes to walk back his gaffes suggests that there is no one with authority to make day-to-day campaign decisions without his approval (and he would not be available very often on the campaign trail). Consider how quickly the Obama campaign responds to attacks and gaffes.
Romney appears to be someone who has to be in charge, surrounds himself with yes men, and doesn't take advice or criticism well. In short, he looks like a control freak. I'm guesing, then, that fundemental problem with the campaign is the candidate. |

4. Also the "you are poor because of your culture" meme was not a gaffe.
|
Mitt really believes that. I think it is part of his own interpretation of Mormon teaching and culture. So that will not change and will continually come out regardless of what his staff advises. Then there is the basic arrogance, "I know better attitude." This explains the London Olympics "gaffe" - again only a gaffe in the sense that he knows he should not have said it in hindsight. But again, advisers cannot stop these kinds of gaffes. An arrogant candidate is going to sound arrogant when he gets into an unscripted situation.
