Hey kids

*****************

5 seconds after this photo was taken, the demonstrator was attacked by the Anaheim cops shown and arrested. Eyewitnesses said he appeared to have broken no law.

4. Wow, that article really sums up well what's been going on. Thank you for

posting it.

For a thoughtful and compelling commentary, I would like to recommend this piece:

Please let me know what you think.

14. I like that piece and another I read that they've published...

About one of the police murders in broad daylight: http://www.ocregister.com/news/dunn-364896-officer-police.html

It looks increasingly like an occupation.

I think the argument about criminally disproportionate arrests and incarcerations of non-whites is a valid one but one that falls far too often on deaf ears.

This is the deep south of the sixties all over again and unless the US justice department steps in, I don't see a lot of relief in the future.

LA (and it's neighbors) police have long been hardened militaristic bullies (as organizations) and the few good cops among them are intimidated by the others.

Where's the federal government on this? Where's one of the congress critters? Senators Boxer and Feinstein, what's up?

3. Where do they find

these guys who are willing to beat up their fellow citizens in exchange for a paycheck? There must be an official freeper list they hire from, just like there's a no-fly list to exclude. Who the f are these violent jerks, hired to protect the homeland of a legendary bigot's frozen head? Resign and get help, guys.

6. A couple places to start answering your all-too-pertinent questions:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanford_prison_experiment

and

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milgram_experiment

*********************

The thing that always bothered me about the Rodney King episode was not so much the beating itself (other instances of which had been going on since at least the 40s) but the fact that so many LAPD officers stood around glad-handing one another while their fellow officers administered the beat-down. While Manuel Diaz lay dying, the Anaheim PD was more concerned with obstructing witnesses' views than with getting Diaz medical aid. IMHO, that is part of what the FBI should be investigating.

17. And that, despite the obvious violations, all the defense had to do was

get the venue changed to white suburbia.

18. That's a good point and quite telling, I think. Simi Valley is not just any

'white suburb' though. IIRC, has a large number of LAPD pigs living there.

5. I wonder what the rest of the world thinks watching this going on in the 'Land of the Free'

a virtual army of heavily armed para-military units protecting Disneyland from unarmed, peaceful protesters, who are there because the police killed two US Citizens?

What a disgrace. Whoever is ordering this needs to be fired.

7. I was teaching in France in 1985 when Philadelphia PD fire-bombed the

MOVE Osage house, where 11 people including 5 children died. My students watched Canal 1's reporting of the fire with looks of absolute horror upon their faces. I shall never forget it for as long as I live.

I love the dollar sign above Mickey's head. It shows the true values of the Disney corporation.

9. Apparently, the guy holding the sign was pretty badly roughed up

while in APD custody. Still waiting for word as to who did the roughing up (whether APD officers or jail inmates) and for word about what charges he is facing.

11. That is what it takes these daze

to float any kind of resistance movement.

Think about that.

That is how far we've sunk, from a truly
"free" society.

Solidarity and strength to this most likely
hapless fellow, not knowing what he was
getting into.

13. Recovering Basic Freedoms

There's so much police brutality surrounding otherwise peaceful protests that we're losing the right to protest. Southern California in particular is full of thuggish cops, although similar stories are coming out of Boston and Wisconson and New York City.
