So, Chick-fil-A's beliefs are based on the bible? Fine. I disagree, but fine...

And mixing milk and meat. And so many other Old Testament laws they violate. They only care about the Gay ones.

30. Amazing.

They make all that hate-money within six days each week. That kind of logic also flies in the face of the teabaggers' philosophy of 'capitalism without interference.'

Many people (even Christians) enjoy dining in restaurants on Sundays. Why would someone operate a business that prevents them from operating on such a busy day of the week?

Such foolishness, on so many levels.

Very very few Christians follow old testament dietary laws. Almost all believe (including my faith) that Jesus said we don't have to.

6. Where in the NEW Testament is there

a condemnation of gay people?

I think Christians who use that Bible to justify their bigotry are using OLD Testament.

And no, I'm not implying Jewish folk use that part of the Bible to discriminate, far from it. But if the New Testament is what one bases a religion on, where is the part that justifies bigotry against gay folks?

7. +1

If they are going to follow part of Leviticus then they need to follow all of Leviticus. To do otherwise is simply twisting the "Word of God" to their own selfish purposes and to me it looks a lot like blasphemy.

So if they had gone with stoning women who were not virgins on their marriage day it would be ok?

I don't understand your reasoning.

38. christ never said stone anyone

In fact his only comment on the subject of stoning was when he publicly stopped an execution and admonished those throwing the stones to to consentrate on their own shortcomings instead of judging others.

And you are.right. the cherry pick the Gospel of Jesus Christ to justify their hate.

9. christ never mentioned gay people

A point that seems to be lost on fundies. The apostle Paul (who never met Jesus) admonishes a particular group of Christians against homosexuality, but even there it is ambiguous at best as a blanket condemnation. My own church ordains gay ministers and is working on liturgy for gay weddings.

I get the point the op is making. The fundies adhere to part of the old testament and not the rest. Problem is, when it comes to kosher diet, they have an answer and aren't being hypocritical. Christ did tell us that was no longer im effect. But if the op had pointed out other old testament laws - such as stoning adulterers or avoid menstruating women, etc it would be a good point. Attacking the bigots at chick-fil-a for not keeping kosher is not.

So the op has the right idea but gives a bad example. That's all. We are on the same side here.

14. Um...you are saying they're hypocritical.

In that they are ignoring the lack of "homosexual bad" in the new testament, but relying on the new testament's release from Kosher laws.

If they're going to follow the new testament in regards to Kosher, they should follow the new testament in regards to gays. Which says nothing. Even Paul's rant is about promiscuity, and not specifically homosexuality.

17. they are indeed, not only hypocritical, but downright satanic

in that their message of hate is the antithesis of Christ and his teachings. As for their hypocrisy, it may be found im their adherence to Leviticus on homosexuality, and not the multitude of other things Leviticus condemns and requires. However, their non kosher menu is not am example of this .

18. "Christ did tell us that was no longer in effect"?

Like when he said this:

"Do not imagine that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets," he declared to his early disciples. "I tell you solemnly, till heaven and earth disappear, not one dot, not one little stroke, shall disappear from the Law" (From Matthew 5)

Not to get too preachy myself as its all a big farce to me, but unsupported statements...

13. I don't support their view, of course.

I don't agree with them at all.

But they do interpret new testament passages to support their bigotry. Not the words of Jesus, but of Paul:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homosexuality_in_the_New_Testament

Again, I do not agree with them, I'm just saying they do use New Testament references.

It's possible to tease out some anti gay rhetoric from Paul's writings if you are sufficiently obsessive about that sort of thing..

19. yep

Jesus on his entire ministry on this earth never brought it up. The quotes from Paul that they point to are in a letter addressed to a specific church under specific conditions and it is a great leap to take those verses and claim the new testament condemns gays or homosexual intimacy.

22. Of course, none of us were there...

but general consensus seems to say he kept kosher, as did his disciples, according to all the customs of the communities of his time. http://www.chosenpeople.com/main/jewish-roots/244-did-jesus-keep-kosher

That he contradicted himself so often in the various scriptures reveals the mishmash of source material and writers, and makes argument pretty pointless. At this distance, there is no coherent person in there.

32. Jesus never said anything about gay people, either.

But being against gay people seems to be Chik-Fil-A's biggest interest - bigger even than running a profitable business. And almost all the biblical citations they use to back up their beliefs come from the Old Testament.
