Introducing Discussionist: A new forum by the creators of DU

Mon Jul 30, 2012, 12:21 AM

ok. i told myself i would never post

about something stupid or offensive a "friend" said on facebook. But someone I haven't seen since high school posts "I guess when they run chick file a out of town we will get gay file a . Where their moto is eat more cock a doodle doo."

Bad enough by itself.

The rest of his page is filled with outpourings of his love for God. No wonder it iS such an uphill climb for those of us who really try to live by Jesus' teachings. People with downright satanic mindframes have sucked all the oxygen from the room.

Oh. And his wife just had their third child so, the premise of the movie idiocracy continues to play out in real life.

9. Send him Romans 2

http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Romans+2&version=KJV

2 Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.

2 But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things.

3 And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?

3. The only person I've ever "de-friended" was kind of like that.

Except for that he was "intelligent." I went to grade school with him, he moved away during middle school. I rented my first apartment from his older brother. My wife was a school friend of his sister. I was friends, but not close with one of his other sisters, and we're currently FB friends and communicate every now and then. But MY old friend...holy shnikees!

Bobby and his sister are both very Christian, which I certainly have no problem with. Just don't push it on me. Except that is just what Bobby did the instant we became Facebook friends. He looked over my page, saw that I was obviously a liberal, and immediately started sending me messages and public postings about how I was going to burn in hell because I approved of killing babies. It didn't matter what the subject was, it all got back to killing babies and God. If I wanted health care, I was a hypocrite because I wanted to kill babies. If I wanted to help poor people, I should first tell the to find Jesus, then stop them from killing their babies. EVERYTHING was about Jesus, God, and killing babies.

He practically stalked me, would send messages to me at odd hours, and post shit to my FB page. It made me very sad...we were good friends growing up. I tried to reason with him on that level, that we were "brothers" and friends, even if I didn't share his beliefs. He agreed, and was very loving. And then said it was a shame I'd be burning in hell for killing babies.

I very politely explained to him why he would be the very first (and to this day ONLY) person I have ever de-friended on Facebook. Okay, my it wasn't "polite," but I explained why.

12. yeah thats ome of the reasons backwards places remain backwards

The intelligent people get the hell put ASAP. For example. Here they usually move to Austin. That's why nobody (the joke is) is originally from Austin. Its populated by the smart liberals fro the rest of Texas.

8. Jesus the Nazarene hung out with 12 guys (and a female prostitute). Not

10. Actually, if you're referring to

Mary Magdeline, she wasn't a prostitute. Pope Gregory wrongly assigned Mary Magdalene as such. Later, the Vatican backed off of the claim.

"Pope Gregory the Great's homily on Luke's gospel dated 14 September 591 first suggested that Mary Magdalene was a prostitute: "She whom Luke calls the sinful woman, whom John calls Mary, we believe to be the Mary from whom seven devils were ejected according to Mark. And what did these seven devils signify, if not all the vices? ... It is clear, brothers, that the woman previously used the unguent to perfume her flesh in forbidden acts."(homily XXXIII)"

"In 1969 the Vatican, during the papacy of Paul VI, without commenting on Pope Gregory's reasoning, implicitly rejected it by separating Luke's sinful woman, Mary of Bethany, and Mary Magdala via the Roman Missal."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Magdalene

I didn't at all miss your point and I don't mean to get technical but Mary Magdalene has gotten a bad rap for years. Some denominations continue to spread the misinformation.

11. Wow, this is one reason I so love DU. I had no idea before tonight (although I think

it makes Jesus the Nazarene even more likable and admirable that he would hang out with a prostitute).

Thanks for bringing me up to speed. I still think the OP's bigoted friend is going to have to explain how it is that Jesus could hang out with 12 guys and not at least have a few eyebrows raised.

13. What Pope Gregory couldn't abide was the fact that Magalene

had been a disciple, on an even footing with the men. There's even a Gnostic gospel supposedly written by Mary Magdalene and it reads like someone who was kept illiterate mot of her life had painstakingly written it. It's online out there somewhere and is worth reading.

The Roman papacy, of course, found it difficult to admit women were anything but walking flowerpots and only reluctantly decided we had souls so they could consign us all to hell.

14. I blame Paul as the source for much of this misogyny, as the four Gospels do not seem

to support it. But I'm a bit of a layperson when it comes to the history of the Papacy, aside from a general awareness of its all-around moral depravity at various points in history.
