Fed Says Powell Tested Positive for Covid-19

(Bloomberg) -- Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell tested positive for Covid-19 late Thursday, a Fed spokesperson said in a statement.

“Chair Powell tested positive for COVID-19 late yesterday and is experiencing symptoms. Following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance, he is staying away from others and working at home,” the spokesperson said.

The Fed chief was scheduled to speak at the commencement ceremony at Georgetown University Law Center in Washington on Sunday. He will deliver those remarks via prerecorded video, the Fed said.

Powell, 71, previously tested positive for Covid in January 2023. The next meeting of the Fed’s policy-setting committee is set for June 11-12.

Just wearing a mask, that is maybe 0.1 of an oz., would have avoided this issue. Traurigkeit May 18 #4

I got to 11/2023 before I got a mild case. I'm going to get another booster in a few weeks.

People are still dying of it, of course. But maybe we're getting closer to the flu with it, only year round?

The more likely to suffer long term effects including cognitive impairment. Not a good idea for the Fed Chairman to be experiencing.

Aside from when I'm on stage or eating, I still wear one.

That said, I've had COVID twice - both times given to me by someone in my family who wasn't wearing one when they were exposed. One is now taking precautions, the other is not. So unless you are living alone - or with family members who are, themselves, consistently wearing masks, simply wearing a mask does not entirely allow one to avoid infection.

(So - while wearing a mask certainly does provide significant protection - my infections have all come from being unmasked at home with family members - and, short of wearing a mask at all times indoors (including while sleeping), I am still exposed by my spouse who is unable and/or unwilling to wear one.)

Very cheap protection and I stay healthy.

Have not had a lung/throat related sickness since April 2020 due to wearing masks
Plus getting COVID-19 vaccines/boosters now every 6 months.

Extremely cheap way to not get sick. Why would anyone want to get sick with ways to avoid sickness ?

Probably mask till there is a cure.
Everyone else can do what they feel is right for themselves.

I also lost a brother, 12 friends and 30 people I knew due to COVID-19
(Doctors, Nurses, Teachers, Taxi drivers, NYPD, NYFD, Owner of a Dry Cleaner, RC Priests, several Nuns, Mothers, Fathers, sons, daughters, care takers.)

aside from when I'm on stage twice a year. The mask interferes with the mic and using my face to convey emotions, so I don't wear a mask for tech week (5 days x 4 hours), and the performances (9 days x 3.5 hours).

But aside from being on stage (which I have been longing to get back to for 50 years) I'm with you on mask wearing. Participating in theater is a choice to accept the risks - balanced against there being a limited number of years in which I will continue to be able to perform (now that I am retired and have time to perform).

As for my spouse - there are some cognitive issues involved.
