Patriotic Americans will honor those who gave the "last full measure of devotion" - their lives - next Monday, May 27, Memorial Day.
Republicans will no doubt wrap themselves in the flag, flash their crosses, and pretend they also honor America's veterans and war dead. But not a one of them will speak up to rebuke the leader of the G.O.P.
That fancy-ass flim-flammer, the Republican leader, has called America's Armed Forces "suckers and losers." The entire Republican party is cool with this. Not a peep of protest or rebuke. Their silence is their approval.
May the veterans of our land, and the Democratic party and allies, remind Americans this coming Memorial Day, that we are sincerely grateful for all who have served our nation. We honor them. "It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this." - A.Lincoln
We turn our backs to the deplorable GOP and its draft-dodging leaders who denigrate our troops as "suckers and losers." And those who cravenly let those lies and insults stand. Utterly disgraceful.

(48,087 posts)He looks at most people as "suckers and losers", especially the ones who do his bidding. I'm sure he'd have no problem sending those people into battle in his name thinking "suckers and losers" as he does it.

(15,416 posts)All this is just more willful ignorance contained within his usual fog of lies. But it was his description of the grief of families meeting the bodies of their dead at Dover Air Force Base that was most illustrative of his abject disdain for human life. They scream, like Ive never seen anything before. Theyll break through military barriers. Theyll run to the coffin and jump on top of the coffin. Crying mothers and wives. Crying desperately.

with courage and distinction.
A fugging disgrace.
The leader of the repubes needs to be held to account this year.

(15,613 posts)I personally know of a few veterans of the Viet Nam war who vote for him and still support him. I also know a contractor who knew him from back in the day in NYC when he did a job for him and got stiffed. This guy also lost his job because of it, but he voted for him twice.
As I said, I will never understand it.

(4,782 posts)immigrants, black and brown folks and gay people more than they could ever hate Trump even if Trump personally stiffed them out of a job. Trump speaks to their fears and their prejudices. It is a powerful thing.
I was in the military and there were plenty of racists.

(17,130 posts)Uncle Steve served 37 years in the US Navy from 1939 to 1976. He earned 2 Navy Crosses. His first was earned at great risk to his own life as part of the rescue effort in shark infested waters of the survivors of the USS Indianapolis. When I last saw him in 1991, I asked Uncle Steve about the scars on both forearms. He told me in harrowing detail about that time in the Pacific in 1945. The 2nd one was earned during Vietnam.
My BIL Larry was with the 3rd Battalion, 9th Marines for 2 tours in Vietnam. He was one of 3 in his unit that did not get killed during the Tet Offensive in 1968. He died this past April of complications of Parkinson's Disease due in part to his exposure from Agent Orange while living at a Veteran's Facility in Yountvillle, California. He was 77.
We owe our Veterans and those still serving, as well as those who gave their lives to preserve our Freedoms. FREEDOM is NOT FREE!

(411 posts)To let the GOP piss all over our veterans and then pretend they "didn't know.". So pathetic.
So unAmerican

(411 posts)The repubes should honor them also. But they don't. Not really. They talk a good game, but when it comes to the real nitty gritty they are AWOL, and lack the courage to call out their leader, donnie the diapered denigrator (R).
