Internet trolls Justice Clarence Thomas as he denounces 'nastiness and lies' he faced, calls Washington a 'hideous place

WASHINGTON, DC: At a court conference on Friday, May 10, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas said that he and his wife had experienced "nastiness" and "lies" over the last several years and criticized Washington, DC as a "hideous place", according to NBC News.

Notably, judges, lawyers, and other court staff from the 11th Circuit Judicial Conference-which hears federal cases from Alabama, Florida, and Georgia-attended the conference where Thomas spoke. In reply to a query concerning working in a society that appears to be cruel, he made the remarks in retaliation against his critics.

Justice Clarence Thomas calls Washington 'hideous place'

Thomas said, "I think there's challenges to that. We're in a world and we - certainly my wife and I the last two or three years it's been - just the nastiness and the lies, it's just incredible."

He added, "But you have some choices. You don't get to prevent people from doing horrible things or saying horrible things. But one you have to understand and accept the fact that they can't change you unless you permit that."

to overturn the 2020 election and his own acceptance of lavish bribes becoming public knowledge.

Author of his own discomfort is laughable at best, complains about that which he and the missus created for themselves. Are they finding it harder to be so generously gifted by autocrats who might now be shy about being exposed for buying a SCOTUS Justice?

He could always just retire and go the fuck away from public life.

I mean, his vote on Roe/Wade has led to laws that have terrorized countless women, even resulting in the death some, and resulted in a strong rightward shift in already red states that marginalizes women and is destroying their ability to get healthcare.
Other than that, all his wife did was support an attempt to overthrow the Constitution, which he is sworn to uphold.

I mean, no big deal, right? right?
I don't even think I need the sarcasm emoji here.

I think that this is not true and is insensitive to Mr Thomas' delicate situation.

When you work for a law office in Anytown, USA you can quit whenever you feel that continuing in your job is causing widespread disgust in your community. But when your employers are oiligarchs who have spent good money to put you in your position, I think that you may not be free to leave just because waves of nausea are sweeping the country. I remember the departure of Mr Kennedy from the same institution and how carefully that departure seemed to be coordinated even with the banksters for whom his son worked.

I always thought that SCOTUS Justices quit when they could guarantee another judge with similar ideology would be appointed into their place. I didn't think about their owners. They probably do threaten Justices who want to retire at an inconvenient time.

30. The biggest flaw in Justice Clarence Thomas' newest complaints

Justice Clarence Thomas wants the public to believe the serious accusations he’s faced are “lies.” He’s going to have to be far more specific.

https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/biggest-flaw-justice-clarence-thomas-newest-complaints-rcna151935

And yet, while Thomas is likely satisfied with the direction of the judiciary, he’s apparently far less happy about the ethics allegations he’s faced. The Associated Press reported:

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas told attendees at a judicial conference Friday that he and his wife have faced “nastiness” and “lies” over the last several years and decried Washington, D.C., as a “hideous place.” Thomas spoke at a conference attended by judges, attorneys and other court personnel in the 11th Circuit Judicial Conference, which hears federal cases from Alabama, Florida and Georgia.

When the far-right jurist was asked specifically about a world that seems meanspirited, Thomas replied, “I think there’s challenges to that. We’re in a world and we — certainly my wife and I the last two or three years it’s been — just the nastiness and the lies, it’s just incredible.”

A New York Times report on the justice’s remarks noted, “It amounted to some of the most extensive public remarks he has made since revelations that he failed to disclose years of lavish trips from wealthy conservatives, like the Texas real estate magnate Harlan Crow, including on private jets and a superyacht.”.....

In each instance, the far-right jurist’s luxurious benefits “have been underwritten by benefactors who share the ideology that drives his jurisprudence.” Though the precise value of the trips is difficult to measure, ProPublica described it as “likely in the millions” of dollars.

It’s an impossible dynamic to defend: Thomas has lived the life of a wealthy man, thanks to the generosity of his rich, likeminded friends.......

Because on the one hand we have a great many compelling, well-sourced, award-winning reports written and published by respected journalists. On the other hand, we have a controversial Supreme Court justice, burdened by decades of controversies, who apparently hopes the public takes his vague assertions at face value, despite his lack of credibility.

This doesn’t seem like an especially tough call.
