Twister

"Let him twist slowly, slowly in the wind." -- John D. Ehrlichman

In early 1973, there was a growing interest in the investigations for the series of crimes known collectively as "Watergate." Ehrlichman thought that the confirmation hearings of Nixon nominee of L. Patrick Gray for the director of the FBI was distracting attention to the crimes that would soon result in his incarceration. Thus, his infamous quote, with more than a hint of delight in Gray's ongoing evisceration by Congress.

Will history repeat itself in 2024? (I know, I know: it rhymes, rather than repeats.) Might the university demonstrations hint at trouble at the Democratic National Convention, similar to 1968? Could divisions result in a sludgy crook winning in November? Need we be overly concerned with the eventual republican VP pick? And what if Kristi Noam becomes the national dog warden?

The good news is that President Biden will be re-elected in November, while the defendant will continue to twist slowly, slowly in the wind. Due to a variety of factors, it will be a relatively close victory. What is also essential for our focus is the Senate. And of course we'd like to regain control of the House.

Now, we've had shady presidents in the past, with Nixon being the most obvious example. So if we are to create a historic rhyme, now is the time to hang the defendant and his associates around the necks of every republican running for office.

Nixon was smarter than the defendant. It took time, but he eventually twisted slowly, slowly in the news. There was an opportunity in 1976 to make gains in the House and Senate, but divisions in our party prevented this. Even Jimmy Carter's win was close, and I consider him one of the most gifted politicians of my lifetime. We have similar potentials this year for meaningful gains.

We have been given gifts such as Moscow Marjorie and Kristi Noem. They have caused a shift that shouldn't go unnoticed. There are republican office-holders and right-wing medias that have now speak against both. They dare say publicly the things they have been saying in private for years. The maga cracks widen.

Since the close of court on Friday afternoon, the defendant has been splattering nonsense into his universe. The most interesting example can be found in "highplainsdem's" OP:
https://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=18942090
It must be understood in the context of the defendant's compulsive projecting. Add an image of a criminal about to be hung in a 50 year old high plains Clint Eastwood western.

Tomorrow, it is expected that Michael Cohen will be called to the witness stand. The media horseshit about him being a convicted liar and thug will be correctly placed in the context of his employment with the defendant. He was being paid to play the role of Roy Marcus Cohn. Though Cohen can appear emotional at times when describing the defendant, he actually does good while testifying in recent years.

Cohen will be but a few feet away from the defendant for the first time in eight years. Michael can -- and will -- do more damage to the defense case than any other witness. The defendant will struggle to not react to Cohen's testimony. He will twist slowly, slowly and break wind. The only question will be how long he can control himself in or outside of the courtroom.

Enjoy the show!

It was also caused by city officials not dealing in good faith with those who were planning the demonstration. is possible that something similar will happen again.

I find myself kind of liking Cohen's post-defendant phase.

I hope Chicago officials are dealing in good faith. I lived and worked in Chicago at the time, was far enough away from powers who were to have recognized what went on. I DID help those jailed to be released, and later studied law there.

Abbie was among the organizers who met with an official about accessing the park nights. At first things sounded positive, but when that official's supervisors learned about the plans, they ruled against night-time access. I doubt they really anticipated how many young people were coming, and the problems that would create. (I know one of our DU friends still has a strong dislike for Abbie, but I got along very well with him. He wasn't always the best at self-control, though.)

When talking about some people, I remember Chief Waterman telling me "he had to be so bad, so that he could become so good." I think that Mr. Cohen is a good example of this.

The original Tadodaho was a vicious, cruel man for part of his life. He had "snakes" coming out of his head, like hair. The Power of the Good Mind changed that. It combed those "snakes" out of his head. He became a great leader for peace and justice, the head of the Grand Council of Chiefs. An extreme example, meant to teach the power of redemption.

personally, i wish johnson was trying harder to fire bad cops. they cost us a fortune and he has much better places to spend that money. we do have a new elected civilian review board. we shall see.

but please, ppl, stop talking about 68. this city is not remotely the same.

Some of that racism had begun to percolate to the surface in 2008, when Senator Obama was transitioning into becoming President Obama. Whatever the origins of the Tea Party included, the racism was creating puddles on the landscape. The defendant read which way the wind was blowing, and opened the well. He made it fashionable for respublicans to be racist, sexist shitheads.

No, probably not from the police this time. Just donnie doing his shit.

We shouldn't lose sight of the fact that this evil person couldn't do all his damage without a lot of help. Not just his hangers-on and familial dimwits. There are plenty that goaded him and kept him going financially. These types will still be there to find the next front-person - perhaps someone appearing much more "normal" - and therefore much scarier.

Njustice Cannon removed from the documents trial. There are debates on if she is incompetent, crooked, or both. I go with both, as I am aware that the defendant's non-lawyer team has hinted to her that there will be a USSC seat for her if she helps him. She has been, of course. But it is no more likely that the defendant would do so, if re-elected, any more than he got Ms. Daniels on his show.

It has been so abused that it has become destructive.

I listened to part of "Hamilton" today - "One Last Time". It reminds us that Washington showed us how to pass the baton. There was misinformation all around even then. But our "news" sources were much more regulated. We need to be able to depend on honest, fact-based sources beyond Snopes. Just saying that we get different news reports is destructive to the nation's health. As well as our personal, mental health.

And thank you.

Yesterday, I pulled out my copy of John Paul Stevens' "Six Amendments: How and Why We Should Change the Constitution" (2014). One might not agree with him on every point, but he had a brilliant legal mind. And it comes alive in his thoughts when he was in his mid-90s.

Even if it is unlikely -- and it is -- that a positive, meaningful change could take place at this time, it is still a good time for discussions to take place.

I think it was Glenn Kirschner who recently noted that while we want to see him in jail, we need to stop and smell the roses ...... because sitting in this trial has been an incarcerating experience for the defendant.

More, it is likely the judge would remove him from the courtroom, to an isolation room with sound, yet soundproof, or at most the holding cell in the court house any time soon.. We want him to spend some time on Riker's Island. Thoughts & prayers that Michael Cohen can get such a response in the next eight days of court.
