But there’s so much more perpetual despair than there was in my younger days. At least I could see myself moving up in life as I compared it to the high water marks as I grew older, there was progress, light at the end of the tunnel. Even at 18 I could afford to move out and get an apartment by myself to go home and rally at when it all seemed like it was too much.

These kids today can’t see any of that. Where’s the reliable used car I scored for $300 back in 1980? Starter homes could still be had for under 50K. There’s nothing like that now, and no way to get traction to improve your life that doesn’t involve sheer luck.

On edit: welcome to DU

What possible difference would that make?

Point a weapon at me and I don't return fire, I shoot 1st and determine intent later.

I'd rather 12 folks on a jury decide my fate than 6 carrying my coffin.

Not sure what you even mean about the mirror. Are you saying that if someone drew a pellet gun on you, you would be able to determine that the barrel bore is 0.043" too small to be a .22 caliber rifle? And, are you also saying that pellet rifles aren't lethal? The kid made a fatal mistake by pointing a gun at law enforcement officers and ignoring their commands. It's just that simple.

your comment doesn't really make much sense. And no, of course I wouldn't shoot someone who offered to clean my windows. I don't carry my Grandfather's .22 hunting rifle around with me in my car

As the kid was in the open, it'd be highly unlikely that he took you by surprise carrying openly what would appear to be a long gun .

I'd also be hesitant about drawing my weapon while the other person already has his gun pointed at me. Such an action might motivate him to pull the trigger while I'm drawing .

I've seen the police shoot people I wouldn't have shot myself and I didn't care for it.

A few people have directly threatened me with guns. Even so it's never occurred to me that I should shoot them.

I do have some PTSD about these things. In my personal experience, once the guns come out everything is FUBAR.

Thanks for letting us know who you would shoot and why.
