(25,038 posts)This carcass of a party is rotting pretty bad, really starting to stink. After Trump, there is no consensus on anyone or anything. The Party of Nothing Really.

(25,038 posts)I honestly don't think the GOP is capable of doing the business of Congress.....legislating for the national common good.

If the GOP had followed the Democratic example set many decades ago, and made all of their presidential primaries "proportional representation" of delegates, they would have had a better chance of getting rid of Trump...
but a lot of the GOP primaries are still "winner-take-all" for state delegates, and Trump can run-away with the delegate count for the nomination with a minority plurality of GOP primary voters...
Since polls show that more GOP voters think "Trump did nothing wrong", and they don't care about the law, and they seem to LIKE the fact that he is a criminal--- I don't see how he can be denied the presidential nomination of their lawless party... even if he WAS in prison at that point, although that seems unlikely just because of the slow pace of judicial proceedings...
There is a minor chance that a Trump trial could conclude and lead to sentencing, BETWEEN the 24 GOP convention and the general election of 24... In that case, the question is, would there be anything that the GOP National Committee could do to DUMP their nominee, between the convention and the general election?? I don't know, but even if there is, I suspect that they would lack the intestinal fortitude to DO it...
